After a year-long hiatus, the Jimbaran-based casual fine dining restaurant is finally reopening with a new tasting menu. Cuca is recognised as one of the island’s most innovative restaurants, the surprising dishes are based on nostalgic flavours that are recreated with incredible skill. This menu also sees the addition of delicious plant-based dishes, like the incredible take on ‘sushi’; with flavoured rice topped with charred eggplant and crisped rice to add texture; a take on traditional nachos using sweet potato crisps filled with refried beans and served with creamy edamame guacamole and a host of others, even vegans will eat very well with this new menu. Plant-based signatures include the vegan portobello mushroom burger, the tempe and roast veggie satay, and the patatas a tierra with guac and aji picante.

The new kid on the block is packed with people enjoying their sidewalk tables, the sparkling, modern interiors, a fab selection of Japanese gins and sake, and the lineup of meaty and vegetarian-friendly ramens. Of course, there are those who can’t go past some of the other items on this menu, like the brilliant prawn gyozas to start. Classic cooking techniques like sous vide, long-cooked master stocks, and hand-made noodles, take this up a notch. Opening soon is their omakase bar upstairs, offering creative cocktails and small bites for those who simply want to hang a while.
