Lovina – A weekend on the ‘other side’ of Bali

No matter if this is your first trip to Bali or your tenth, there is always more to see and do and discover. First timer Siska Tromp and her friends, headed to the other side of Bali to see the sights and enjoy a weekend of adventures in Lovina.

Lovina is a small village in the north of Bali famous for the beautiful nature. The main activities in Lovina are snorkeling, diving and dolphin spotting. We chose to play tourists and do some serious sightseeing, so we planned our trip to include as much nature as we could squeeze in to a weekend.

We started this trip from Canggu which is located in the south-west of Bali. Even though the drive is long, the best way to do it is by scooter because the road to Lovina is almost as beautiful as the place itself.

Pura Ulun Danu Bratan

The first stop was at the temple Pura Ulun Danu Bratan. This temple is located in the northwest of Bali at the Bratan lake. It is called Dewi Danu because it is named after the goddess of water, lakes and rivers. It took us 1.5 hours driving from Canggu to reach the temple.

Cliff jumping and the Aling-Aling Waterfall

From the temple we went to Aling-Aling Waterfall. On the way you drive past some beautiful rice fields and just before you get there, you pass through a stunning stretch of jungle. This drive lasted an hour.

At the reception of the Aling-Aling Waterfall, they advised us to do a cliff jump tour. For only 125000 IDR this includes jumping off 3 waterfalls. The first is 5 meters high followed by a waterfall of 10 meters and finally we jumped off a waterfall 15 meters high! After this exciting experience, we walked with the guide to the Aling-Aling waterfall which was as gorgeous as we’d been told it was!

Were we stayed

Finally we headed to Lovina and stayed at Lilin Lovina Beach Hotel. This is not an ordinary hotel, more like a resort that consists of small villas with their own private swimming pool. The atmosphere here is very relaxed and the staff takes great care of you!

What to do at night

Lovina is a quiet village with not much to do at night, but we found two very nice places where you can eat something and afterwards have a drink. Funky Place is a bar / restaurant with an appealing décor and an amusing vibe. You can eat here and if you like, join in a game of beer pong! When you are done playing, you can continue at Kantin 21. Here the live music continues until the early hours.

Sekumpul waterfall

The second day we went to the Sekumpul waterfall, which took us 50 minutes driving from Lovina. They advised us to walk with a guide to the waterfall, this costs 50000 IDR per person. After 15 minutes walking down the path you come to a viewpoint where you get a great view of the waterfall, this is absolutely beautiful. Then you can walk all the way down to view the waterfall from below. After spending a few hours here, we headed back to Canggu. Now it’s time to plan our next adventure, stay tuned.
