Prana Spa – the hands of experience

Prana Spa has earned its place among Bali’s best spas and remains an all time favourite. The allure of the Moroccan-themed spa lies in the experience of its therapists. Whether you’re popping in for a quick massage or bringing a crew of friends for a hen’s party, a birthday or just to relax with friends, the experience starts at reception where staff take you through the spa offerings. I’ve tried numerous treatments from the signature massage to the relaxing Shirodhara to the very effective slimming package. This time I opted for the two-hour revitalising package.

The treatment begins with a traditional lulur scrub. Unlike many others, the scrub doesn’t feel or smell tacky, the temperature is perfect, so no squealing as a cold, wet, messy concoction is applied. It’s warm and fragrant and doesn’t stain your skin a startling yellow, which does happen. As the paste dries, the therapist rubs off dead skin cells before an invigorating Vichy shower washes it all away. Next is a stop at the steam room to rid the skin of toxins before the therapist leads you to an ornate massage room and begins the combination Swedish and Balinese massage which lasts a blissful 90 minutes.

Throughout the therapists are skilled, confident and gentle, which is where the training and experience sets Prana apart from many other Bali spas.

Emerging two hours later, relaxed, revitalised, moisturised, glowing from the scrubbing, rubbing and detoxifying treatment, the feeling is pure bliss. Prana Spa is unique, like a Persian rug or a confident older woman, the patina of time adds to its allure. The combination of experienced therapists and the lavish surroundings places Prana among the best of Bali spas.
