Nusa Penida is an island southeast of Indonesia's island Bali and a district of Klungkung Regency that includes the neighbouring small island of Nusa Lembongan. The Badung Strait separates the island and Bali. The interior of Nusa Penida is hilly with a maximum altitude of 524 metres. Here's the spots you definitely want to check out when you stay there:⁠

1. Crystal Bay⁠
This idyllic beach fronts the popular dive spot Crystal Bay. The sand here is pale, and palm trees add a South Pacific motif. The beach is popular with Bali day trippers who arrive in boats (one operator is @balihaicruises_) but mostly the beach remains blessedly rural. A couple of warungs (food stalls) and beach cafes rent snorkelling gear. The temple, Segara Sakti, adds the perfect touch ⁠

2. Angel's Billabong⁠
Angel’s Billabong is one of the magical spots you can’t help but marvel at. A crystal clear tide pool cascades into the ocean on the east coast of Nusa Penida that allows you to see the patterns and textures beneath the surface. In some areas, the water is deep enough for a little dip! Just make sure you visit during low tide ;)⁠

3. Manta Ray Point⁠
The name says what it is, this area of coastline has dramatic limestone cliffs that descend straight into the ocean where you can dive with Giant Manta Rays. There’s a sandy bottom at 12-18m, however the Cleaning Station (a large rock) which is the focus of most dives here, is only 5m below the surface. 4. Kelingking Beach⁠
The Instagram famous coastal cliffscape, which truly does look like a T-rex didn’t disappoint. Kelingking actually translates into English meaning Pinkie a term referencing the smallest finger on the hand. Just like a pinkie promise, the land does also appear to take the form of a Kelingking or pinkie finger. However, it is the comparison to the T-Rex that has caused this location to become so popular.⁠

Imagine the wreck of a 120m boat lying in 20m of water just 40m off a beach with practically no current. Surrounded by black sand, the whole area attracts a large diversity of marine life – from the usual reef fish, to bumphead parrotfish, potato cod and even turtles. You can find this at USAT Liberty, which was a United States Army cargo ship torpedoed by Japanese submarine I-166 in January 1942 and initially beached in Tulamben (East coast of Bali).⁠

Luckily for diving enthusiasts, tremors produced by the 1963 eruption of the local Gunung Agung, caused her to roll and become a magnificent wreck and artificial reef. It’s the kind of site where you can do four dives per day, and still want to come back for more. There’s practically no current, so local dive shops even take absolute beginners onto it.⁠

A clean strip of sandy beach along the coast, Melasti beach is located in the southern tip of Bali and can be quickly reached from Kuta (30 minutes). Enjoy a nice sunny day out with surfing or chill by the sunlounger that cost almost nothing, You can also visit @palmillabali for an elevated vibe and experience.⁠

2. Munduk⁠ Hills⁠
Surrounded by green hills and misty air from the high altitude, Munduk is a village in the northwest of Bali which connects Bedugul with Singaraja. Famous for its farm produce and trekking sites, Munduk is also close by to Bali Botanical Garden in Bedugul.⁠

3. Kintamani⁠ Village⁠
If you want to get away from the sunny side of Bali, Kintamani is a good destination for you. Kintamani is located in the northeast part of Bali and where Mt. Agung and Mt. Batur are located, and due to its unique terrain, it's the perfect spot for mountain hiking and rock climbing.⁠

4. Sidemen⁠ Village⁠
A little southern and further east from Kintamani, Sidemen is a nice quiet little village with vast jungle and ricefields alike. Don't forget to visit Pura Luhur Lempuyang and Pura Besakih for your sightseeing pleasure.⁠

5. Medewi⁠ Coast⁠
The drive towards this area is definitely a must-to-do thing if you love road trips, go through 14km stunning coastline and pay a visit to Juwuk Manis twin waterfall on the way. Once you arrive in Medewi, you can visit Rambut Siwi cliff-top temple or join one of yoga classes held in various venues in Medewi.⁠
