The sustainable design of Bali’s new Mari Beach Club echoes Bali’s past and inspires optimism at this refreshingly different venue on Batu Belig beach.
Opened by Syah Establishments, a forward-thinking Indonesian hospitality company, Mari Beach Club employs natural and repurposed materials and boasts a series of experiences that take guests on a journey rooted firmly in the Bali experience.
Perfectly situated between Seminyak and Canggu, the chic eco-friendly structures found across the venue are the result of an exciting collaboration with Ibuku, a Bali-based team of talented designers, architects, and engineers well-known for redefining luxury through sustainable architecture and design, utilizing bamboo.
With a stunning beachfront location, Mari boldly takes on neighbouring beach clubs with a real focus on bringing elements of Bali to the fore of the experience, with cultural references throughout.
Set at the entrance is an embodiment of Mount Agung, a striking structure called The Dome where guests are welcomed into a world that highlights Bali’s essence and exceptional hospitality. The descending polished staircase from The Dome to the beachside venue symbolises the Balinese rice terraces, the ancient one-of-a-kind irrigation system locally known as Subak.
As the guests move further into the venue they cross a peaceful river that flows across the length of the venue, leading the eye to the ever-changing shades of blue of the ocean. Along the stream, an iconic wooden swing, inspired by those found in the village of Tenganan, stands tall, proudly telling a spellbinding story from the ancient Aga village in East Bali.
In an eclectic combination of Bali’s cultural heritage, its geography and natural beauty, together with the bohemian influence on modern Bali and a chic contemporary vision, Mari Beach Club has set to redefine the beach club experience.
“Through every detail, Mari is meticulously created to represent the allure of Bali, and become wonderfully integrated into its setting, and not the other way around. In other words, Mari aims to present the elegance of Bali just the way it is supposed to be, unpretentiously,” explains Chairman and Creator of Syah Establishments, Felly Imransyah.
From the music programme to the food, drinks and inspired architecture, Mari seeks to deliver a little deeper into the cultural heritage of Bali.
“Today, Bali is so many things to so many people; a party venue, a spiritual home, a foodie destination, an international hub, an island for adventures. Ultimately it is the people of Bali and the many visitors who are the energy behind this unique destination. All this and more is reflected in the club and in a very thoughtful way. Sustainability goes beyond the architecture to ensure that Mari contributes to the future of Bali by protecting it. The music and dance performances combine traditional elements with modern soundtracks. The food will reflect Bali’s local and international influences, and throughout an eco-sensibility that promises zero waste in the kitchen and repurposed materials in the design elements.
With the beachfront reflected in beautiful pale blue pools, with sand blurring the lines between the club and the beach and a sense of purpose to retain Bali’s cultural elements, Mari brings intelligence and cultural sensitivity to the shores of Batu Belig.
