Uluwatu is full of amazing eating spots, but old habits die hard. We’re often drawn to the same old favourites, missing out on exciting new restaurants and bars offering something fresh and different. Recently, something new caught our eye – Tanah Bakery & Grill at the beginning of Jalan Raya Uluwatu. A stylish restaurant serving brunch and dinner, combining fresh-baked goodness and grill magic, all in a cosy, spacious setting.
This new restaurant in Uluwatu is a true find, offering a unique dining experience that seamlessly blends the best of modern Australian and European cuisine. The concept, an all-day brunch from 7 am to 5 pm, is brilliantly executed, creating a welcoming “third space” – a place to relax, connect, and enjoy delicious food in a homey atmosphere.
Tanah Uluwatu Bakery & Grill’s concept is rooted in the essence of “tanah,” the Indonesian word for earth. This name reflects a space designed to nourish, connect, and offer a sense of belonging.
For ex-pats, digital nomads, and long-stay travellers in Uluwatu, Tanah offers something more: a third home. And it’s true — from the moment we arrived, the warm embrace of this welcoming venue felt like a gentle hug, a stark contrast to the nose and the traffic outside.
The kitchen is led by Head Chef Ranto Simanjuntak, who infuses each dish with passion and skill. Chef Ranto’s approach to cooking is deeply personal — inspired by the idea of bringing people together through food.
Tanah Uluwatu Bakery & Grill began its journey with the bakery, which makes bread and pastries fresh every morning and infuses the restaurant with the heady scent of fresh loaves. The all-day brunch is served daily from 7 AM to 5 PM, a flexible approach made to order for our busy lives.
One standout favourite is their Croissant Breakfast Sandwich – buttery golden croissants meet savoury fillings for a truly satisfying start to the day. For a must-try experience, don’t miss Jono’s Grilled Sausage Sandwich, a satisfying bite of salty and squishy goodness.
As the sun sets, Tanah Uluwatu Bakery & Grill transitions into an inviting restaurant with a delicious grill menu as they are open for dinner. The thoughtfully curated dinner menu from 5 PM to 11:30 PM features a tempting selection of grilled meats and seafood, the perfect excuse to settle in for an evening with friends, or even a solo dining experience.
Our evening began with a delightful selection of appetisers. A delicate Prawn Tartlet is filled with sweet prawns, creamy avocado buttermilk, tangy Saint Marie sauce, and a fresh pop of salmon roe. The grilled half-shell scallops were equally impressive, the tender scallops enhanced by the crunchy pangrattato and subtle brandy finish.
For mains, we dived into the grill menu. The Jack Creek grain-fed striploin (MB4, 250g) was perfectly cooked – tender, juicy, and beautifully charred; the green peppercorn gravy added a lovely richness. The baked burrata was a dream, the creamy cheese melting beautifully with the smoky tomato and nutty pistachio pesto. Freshly baked sourdough was the perfect vehicle for soaking up every last drop.
The cocktail menu is equally impressive, showcasing creativity and expertise. The Cassis Voyage is a rich, fruity delight, while the Green Canyon provides a refreshing contrast with its bright, tropical notes. Caribbean Milk was a luxurious treat; creamy and tropical, and the Rose Orange is fragrant and citrusy. Each cocktail was expertly balanced and made with high-quality ingredients.
Tanah is a comforting new addition to the Uluwatu Eats scene. The food is excellent, the ambience is inviting, and the service is impeccable. You can easily spend hours relaxing and enjoying the company of friends and family, fueled by delicious food and expertly crafted cocktails. Highly recommended!
