Unpretentious, fabulous, and glamorous, are three words that describe The Asa Maia, one of Uluwatu’s sexiest wellness resorts. The first thing that impressed us at The Asa Maia, was the unique energy; serene and blissful. The setting aims to inspire guests to reset and reconnect. Tucked away in the heart of Uluwatu, it’s just a few steps from the majestic Thomas’ beach.
The Asa Maia is the perfect getaway spot for those who want to immerse themselves in the beauty of Uluwatu’s nature and unwind at the same time. Making our way through The Asa Maia, we felt ourselves exhale, shedding the stress of our trip and our daily lives. This is what they do brilliantly. Entering the gates you shift from one state to another.
With 10 guest suites, The Asa Maia offers an intimate stay experience. The architecture is inspired by ancient Java, with suites created from centuries-old gladaks, handpicked from East Java and reassembled on-site, like a giant wooden jigsaw puzzle.
The Asa Maia Suite was where we stayed; a villa that boasts designer touches throughout the light-flooded suite. It’s a luxurious space to soak up the serenity and sleep comfortably, with a king bed suite and Scandi-esque corner sofas in soothing colours, with striking art, and soaring ceilings. There are plenty of nods to Indonesia’s long and celebrated history of craftsmanship, and bespoke details like their Dutch-inspired artisan Copper and glass-beaded pendant lights. The stunning bathroom features a bluestone tub; it’s a showstopping way to unwind after a day at the beach or spa.
What was most memorable about our wellness getaway at The Asa Maia was their hot-cold Subterranean pools, which are nestled side by side. These hot and cuboid-esque cold pools are one of only a handful of contrast therapy facilities in Bali.
Food was an integral part of our experience at The Asa Maia. Everything that we savoured was not only delicious but also nourishing. Their approach to clean eating is a revelation of tastes and textures at The Asa Maia and the perfect way to reset. The menus are made to feed both body and soul, with a focus on sustainable local produce sourced from quality local producers. Their approach is about more than wellness, it benefits the local community and recognises local artisan food producers.
The Asa Maia is a luxury, eco-minded Balinese boutique hideaway that is thoughtfully curated with comfort and creativity for conscious and mindful travellers. A stay at the thoughtful and beautifully designed Asa Maia is a step towards wellness and a great way to enjoy the best of Uluwatu.
